In an interview promoting the re-release of the 1986 album "Turbo," Judas Priest vocalist Rob Halford reminisced about the 1980s, saying it was one of the best eras of rock. Halford recalls his life during that time:
"The big difference with this album is that for the first time in a long time we took the time we needed.".
There was a period in the early '80s when we were actually making an album a year and doing a tour a year. How we did it, I don't know. We were on fire, having a lot of fun, we had deadlines, and an incredible relationship with the record label.
And “Turbo” was in the mid-80s, right? We had more time to step back and take our own time with that album. We were in a different era. And I was in a different phase because I had so much cocaine up my nose that I don't know how I lived each day, I was living in a personal rage.
What I'm trying to say is: America in 1986, no matter where you went, there were incredible things happening in Rock and Metal. I always remember the '80s as one of the best decades for our kind of music. We were in the middle of all that excitement and good times and it was party-party-party (…) And I think we just… loved the moment. The band was having a great phase and a lot of that was reflected in “Turbo.”
